Cultural Exchange programme with Sarhad Group of Schools

DPS Srinagar continued  its endeavor to establish a tradition of cultural exchange. From July 04 to July 13, 2024, DPS Srinagar hosted a Cultural exchange program with Sarhad Group of Schools,  Pune. The delegation included 16 students, 2 teachers, and a local coordinator from Sarhad School. This program, organized by the Department of International Affairs at DPS Srinagar, provided an excellent opportunity for students and teachers  to deepen their understanding of each other’s state, people, and culture. It enabled students to acquire awareness and skills to prepare them for becoming global citizens.

The heartfelt welcome extended to the delegation from Sarhad School, Pune, touched everyone deeply. The visitors resided within the premises of the host school, allowing for an immersive experience of Kashmiri culture. The program included a school tour and a meeting with the Principal, Ms. Shafaq Afshan. In her address to the delegation, she emphasized that this exchange program was a great opportunity to learn about Kashmir’s language, culture, traditions, music, and food, encouraging everyone to make the most of it.

As part of the tour, the students explored various places of historical and cultural significance in the valley. They visited the famous Mughal Gardens, Kheer Bhawani Temple, and Hazratbal Shrine. To experience the state’s flora and fauna, the students visited renowned tourist destinations such as Dal Lake, Cheshmashahi, Gulmarg, Dodhpathri, Pari Mahal, and Manasbal Lake. A visit to a local village school in Ompora, Budgam added to the grandeur of the trip, offering a unique perspective on rural education in Kashmir.

During their stay, students from both states had numerous opportunities to exchange views on traditions, culture, lifestyle, and education. They engaged in indoor and outdoor activities, fun games, and friendly matches. This visit was an enriching experience, allowing students to understand the similarities between the two states and providing a unique platform to exchange their views, thoughts, and ideas. The students returned enriched with varied learning experiences, contributing to their development as well-rounded individuals.
