DPS Srinagar students clinch top honours at the Mathematics Innovators Expo
The Mathematics Innovators Expo 2024 was successfully organised by Green Valley Institute, Srinagar from September 17 – 19. This Mathematics Conference aimed at fostering a collaborative environment over a period of three days where learners and educators came together to share knowledge, explore new ideas and develop innovative approaches in the field of Mathematics. This Conference also showcased the talents of students from various esteemed schools across the valley. The event was divided into three key segments, each designed to emphasize different aspects of mathematics: a Mathematical Model Competition, a Mathematical Quiz Competition, and a Mathematical Conference. Students from our school also participated actively in all the three segments, demonstrating the creativity, enthusiasm and problem-solving skills in the subject.
Event Overview
Day 01: Mathematical Model Competition
The first day of the Conference witnessed students displaying their innovative mathematical models. Two students who represented DPS Srinagar in this competition are:
Ajwa (Class 10): She presented a model on the Basic Proportionality Theorem, effectively demonstrating this fundamental concept in geometry.
Zainab Iqbal (Class 11): She created a Derivative Machine model, along with a graphical representation of the concept of derivatives. Her work showcased an advanced understanding of calculus.
Day 02: Mathematical Quiz Competition
The second day featured an exhilarating Mathematical Quiz Competition. Our school fielded two teams: one for the junior level and another for the senior level.
Junior Quiz Team: Comprised of Zainab, Damin, and Idah from Classes 6 to 8. They performed exceptionally well, securing first place in the junior quiz competition.
Senior Quiz Team: Consisting of Mutahir (Class 12), Bazila (Class 11), Saad (Class 10), and Shakir (Class 9), also excelled, achieving first rank in the category of the seniors.
Day 03: Mathematical Conference
The final day featured a Mathematical Conference, where the keynote speaker, Professor Mukhtar Khanday, delivered a lecture on “Math Fear.” He provided insightful perspectives on transforming math anxiety into fascination, offering practical advice to motivate students and educators alike.
Conclusion
Overall, the Mathematical Expo 2024 was a resounding success. Our school showcased excellence by winning both the junior and senior quiz competitions and also earned 5th place in the Mathematical Model Competition. This event not only strengthened our students’ mathematical skills but also fostered collaboration and healthy competition among schools in the valley. We eagerly look forward to participating in future events and continuing to inspire a passion for mathematics among our students.
