Beyond the Classroom: Ropes, Treks, and Tents—The Thrilling Kinara Pahalgam Experience
A group of adventurous students from Classes 7th and 9th recently embarked on an unforgettable 2-night, 3-day Adventure Camp trip to Kinara Pahalgam, a renowned adventure camping site. This expedition was designed to foster teamwork, resilience, and a spirit of adventure outside the traditional classroom environment.
Upon arrival, the students received a warm welcome and a comprehensive safety briefing covering the camp’s ‘dos and don’ts,’ ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience. Energised by a hot breakfast, the students quickly settled into their tents in buddy pairs, strengthening their bonds with friends and becoming familiar with their surroundings. The first activity was an essential acclimatisation trek into the jungle adjoining the base camp. This gentle hike helped students adjust to the terrain and climate, setting the stage for the challenging adventures to follow.
Following their return, the students were refreshed with mocktail drinks before enjoying a delicious lunch and a well-deserved rest. The afternoon was dedicated to a challenging multi-adventure rope course, which tested their balance and courage. Activities included:
- Walking and balancing on inclined planks
- Crossing vertical tyre walls and nets
- Navigating the Burma Bridge
Each activity was meticulously briefed, with protective helmets mandatory for ensuring student safety. The day concluded with spirited team-building games and fun competitions like Tug-of-War, followed by a relaxing dinner, bonfire, music, and dance. The students retired, tired but happy, after a final round of hot tea. Day two began on a positive note with exercise and prayer. After breakfast, and equipped with packed lunches, the group set off on a scenic, day-long trek along the Old Shikargah trek trail. The journey was marked by crossing a freshwater stream for bottle refills and a picturesque lunch halt in a beautiful meadow. During the break, the trek leader provided an informative briefing on the various peaks and valleys visible from the site. The students returned to the base camp by 4 PM, exhausted yet exhilarated by their achievement. A well-deserved gala dinner was served, followed by an early night to recover from the strenuous day.
The final morning maintained the high level of excitement. The day began with paintball shooting, where two students showcased remarkable accuracy and were applauded by the group. The competition continued with another enthusiastic Tug-of-War event. The culminating Plank Race Competition perfectly reinforced the importance of teamwork and team spirit. After a satisfying final lunch, the students bid a warm farewell to Kinara Pahalgam. They departed for home, carrying not just souvenirs but a wealth of unforgettable memories and a renewed sense of confidence and camaraderie. This adventure trip was a powerful testament to the students’ spirit of adventure, determination, and their ability to function effectively as a team. It successfully met its objectives of providing a fun, challenging, and character-building experience.
A special note of thanks is extended to all the escorted teachers, including the medical staff, whose dedicated supervision and care ensured the safety and success of the entire expedition.
