DPS Srinagar students shines at WELMUN 2022 and LMGMUN 2022

Two different groups of students from DPS Srinagar School participated in the Model United Nations (MUN) held at Dehradun and Lucknow. Nine students accompanied by 2 teachers, Ms. Fehmida Khaliq and Mr. Sajid Reshi participated in the eighth edition of WELMUN, held at the esteemed institution of Welham Boys School, Dehradun. And a group of 8 students and 2 teachers, Ms. Syed Sumera, Coordinator, International Affairs and Ms. Rafia Siddiqui participated in the 7th Edition of LMGMUN 2022, held at La Martiniere Girls’ College, Lucknow.

Model United Nations (MUN) is an extracurricular activity in which students typically role-play delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. MUN is an educational simulation where in children get abreast with diplomacy, international relations and procedural functioning of the UN in its real time, besides enhancing their leadership qualities, researching capacity, critical thinking and listening and debating skills.

WELMUN was a three day long event starting from August 4, 2022 to August 6, 2022 which was all about immense debating, enlightenment, learning about global issues, developing critical analytical thinking skills by finding solutions to the crisis discussed in the respective committees and interacting with students from different schools across India. Different agendas were discussed and debated upon with respect to these seven committees- UNSC, DISEC, UNHRC, UNODC, WTO, AIPPM and IPC. These committees were covered by the IPC committee through press conferences and there were three committee sessions on each day of conferences. Similarly LMGMUN 2022 was also a three days event of exhilarating debate on international relations issues, organized from August 12 to August 14. The event witnessed an overwhelming participation of 450 student delegates from 25 eminent schools in India. It provided the delegates opportunity to learn about an array of other topics, ranging from international relations-related matters such as “the sexual orientations & protection of women,”, “Heeding to the economic weapons and their effect on world economy” and “Bioethics o Bioterrorism and Biowarfare” to education topics, including “analyzing the issue of illegal trade in wildlife” and “Nazi Cabinet and Soviet Cabinet”.

Every delegate worked hard and was well researched in their areas. Most of the Elite Schools from India and abroad were a part of this Conference and Delhi Public Srinagar was appreciated by one and all equivocally for the spirit with which they participated and their mind blowing research. Khalid Khursheed won the Best Delegate Award, Ibaad Bukhari and Mehnoor, who were double-delegates, won the verbal mention and Hoor Sameer Azad who was in the IPC also won a verbal mention in WELMUN. And in LMGMUN, Khalid Khursheed and Syed Imaad were presented with high commendations for their respective committees & Zara Farooq and Afreen Jeelani won the verbal mentions.
