The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 proposes changes that are being implemented throughout the educational system, from schools to higher education. The implementation of this policy would undoubtedly benefit students and other stakeholders. However, its effective implementation would require well-trained teachers. The session stressed the significance of well-trained teachers in improving the education system in India and it emphasized the need for further teacher education to ensure a bright future for India’s young minds.

The meeting began with the keynote address by the Dr. Ram Shankar, Director (Training) CBSE who emphasized the importance of the NEP for the development of the education system in India. The key focus of the speech was the significance of quality education for students’ overall development and the role of teachers in imparting quality education. The keynote address was followed by the panel discussion, which was moderated by the education policy expert. The panelists included principals, teachers, and authorities from CBSE. Panelists had a comprehensive analysis and discussion about the key provisions of the NEP and their implications for teachers and students. The panelists also underlined the importance of teachers’ training for the successful implementation of the NEP.

In the second half of the session, Mr. JK Jain -Deputy Secretary (IT) enlightened the participants about how to use CBSE website and other important web portals. The second part of the session focused on the training needs and challenges of teachers to implement the NEP. The panelists highlighted that NEP would necessitate the implementation of new pedagogies and teaching methodologies. Thus, teachers would require adequate training to understand the new concepts and incorporate them into their teaching methods. The panelists emphasized that training programs would need to cover digital and online methods of teaching and assessment, providing socio-emotional support to students, inclusion and diversity, and the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills in students. The workshop also recognized the challenges that would arise during the implementation of the NEP. Some of the key challenges highlighted were the inadequate infrastructure in many schools, insufficient availability of resources, and resistance to change from some stakeholders.

The sessions held, provided a platform for education experts, policymakers, and principals to discuss the training requirements and challenges necessary to implement the NEP effectively. The session recommendations should be implemented to ensure that teachers are adequately trained to cater to the new policy requirements, and so that the NEP can lead to meaningful changes in the education system.
