Gratitude Day at DPS Srinagar: A Day of Gratitude and Dialogue
On 1st May 2025, the Indoor Stadium of Delhi Public School, Srinagar, became a space of reflection and recognition as students, teachers, and auxiliary staff gathered to mark the Gratitude Day. Organised by the Student Council, the event involved students from Class 7 to participate in person and the whole event was broadcast live across Classes 6 to 12.
The programme began with a brief introduction, followed by a prayer choir sung by school orchestra, offering a calm and respectful opening.
The Principal, Ms. Shafaq Afshan, then addressed the gathering with a heartfelt message emphasizing that labour should be valued not as a one-day gesture, but as a daily ethic. A tribute was paid to the late Mr. Ayoub Dhobi by Mr. Jahangir, a moment that reminded the community of the silent work and lives that often go unnoticed.
This was followed by an Award Ceremony honouring the school auxiliary staff for their continued dedication. The event was enriched by a captivating orchestral performance and a poignant Kashmiri poetry recitation by Minha Wani, showcasing artistic depth and cultural flair. The Rouf performance by members of the auxiliary staff was a highlight, met with genuine applause and appreciation from students and the staff alike.
In a rare and open exchange, a panel discussion brought together Class 12 students and auxiliary staff, encouraging conversation around dignity, labour, and understanding, breaking down roles and building respect. The programme then moved to the younger voices: Class II students performed “Woh Tu Zinda Hai”, and Class V students delivered short speeches, each expressing simple but sincere views on fairness and gratitude.
The event concluded on a high note with a lively medley performance by students from Classes 10 to 12, filling the space with energy and unity. The Cultural Head, Zainab Iqbal concluded the event with a short and meaningful address, capturing the day’s spirit in a few words.
Gratitude Day at DPS Srinagar was not merely a celebration, it was a reminder that every swept floor, every fixed chair, and every quiet gesture carries a human story. And this time, those stories were seen, heard, and honoured.
