“Rosul Mir” Day Celebrations

Delhi Public School on Saturday, 23rd May, 2015 paid a rich musical tribute to the 19th century legendary Kashmiri poet, Rosul Mir. An impressive function was organized to celebrate the Rosul Mir Day by Music Deparment- Mr. Tariq , Mr. Bilal, Mr. Maqbool & Ms Shazia Arshid of Kashmiri Department in the school. The programme was inaugurated by Mr.Vijay Dhar , Mrs Kiran Dhar & Mrs Kusum Warikoo of the school at DPS. Among the poets of Kashmir, Rosul Mir stands out as a leading versifier who wrote romantic poetry at a time when spiritual poetry in Kashmir was reigning supreme. He has been likened to the famous English poet, John Keats, like whom he died at a very young age. Almost hundred students from 3rd to 5th participated in the programme. Mir’s songs like Bahar Ava, Ha Yaar Mukhta Haar, Blends, Khaswun Nund Boun sung by students captivated the audience. Mrs Kusum Warikoo complimented the junior wing for organizing a grand musical tribute to the outstanding poet of Kashmir. Students of 3rd, 4th & 5th classes also presented musical items based on Mir’s poetry. A special kashmiri traditional song Ladisha, was also presented by the students. The song was composed by Kashmiri teacher Ms Shazia Arshid. Mr Vijay Dhar highly appreciated the teachers for helping to keep the tradition of ladisha alive. Mir’s famous verses like MEY CHUE MUREY LULWUN NAAR, THAR THAR CHHAM MARA BA SHAYAD and mesmerizing music enthralled guests. Such programmes help to keep our tradition and our poets alive. The programme ended with a vote of thanks delivered by the worthy Principal Mrs Kusum Warikoo. The event was an enlightening experience for all present.
