DPS Srinagar considers community and public service to be an integral part of student development and scholarly engagement. Therefore, the School encourages faculty, staff and students to engage in community and public service projects. Hence a community service drive was conducted by Delhi Public School, Srinagar at Village School, Chandhara Village on November 3rd, 2022. The drive was conducted with focus on celebrating the 17th Anniversary of AFS India Day under the theme of “Handful of Rice – Mutthi bhar Anaj”.

The volunteers of DPS Srinagar planned and scheduled the activities for the day of service dedicated to children of the school . They organized a variety of activities with the children such as reading, playing, painting, sports, and doodling. All the volunteers collected food donations that included food packets of rice, flour, cereal, pulses, juices and biscuits. Also stationary supplies were distributed among the students that included pencils, rubbers, sharpeners, rulers etc. Volunteers also tutored children about robotics and taught them to make some basic yet interesting scientific models using waste materials.

The volunteering drive proved to be a richer and enjoyable experience for all the students.  It incorporated the core ideas of progressivism such as democracy, experimental education, and individual rights. This community activity encouraged volunteers to find and use their passions to exercise solutions to the problems around them. It not only inspired civic responsibility, leadership skills and develop community pride but also impacted the self-confidence, mental health, and well-being of the students.
