Delhi Public School, Bangalore North students visit to Delhi Public School, Srinagar on an Inter State Cultural Class Exchange Programme

As a part of the inter-cultural learning 10 students of class X of Delhi Public School, Bangalore North accompanied by two teachers visited Delhi Public School, Srinagar from April 19, 2016 to April 26, 2016. A wide spectrum of activities was planned for the students from classroom learning to outings in and around Srinagar city. Students displayed keen interest while attending art and theatre classes. The hallmark of the program was the visit of DPS students and teachers to the homes of their buddies in Srinagar.

Visit to world famous Mughal Gardens, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Manasbal Lake, Kheer Bhawani temple led the DPS students to connect with nature. They enjoyed local sightseeing like visit to historical Jama Masjid, Shankaracharya Temple, Chashmashahi, Parimahal and the Dal Lake. Visit to houseboats along Nehru Park brought them much closer to the Kashmiri culture. In tune with the school culture, DPS students also attended the morning assembly in which they learnt the vibrant culture of Kashmir. Students of DPS Bangalore North, learnt the nuances of theatre and fine arts  from Mr. Sajid Mohi-u-Din and Mr. Asif Iqbal, faculty of DPS, Srinagar making it an inter-cultural exchange programme in true earnest. The visit to Hazratbal Shrine and Hari Parbat and Chattipadshahi on the last day taught students of both the school that richness of life lies in the spirit of oneness, loving and knowing people of diverse cultures.

The Valedictory function was held on 25th April for the students of DPS Bangalore North who were here for the cultural exchange progmramme (AFS) for the period of 10 days. The function commenced with the welcome speech of Esha Malhotra followed by the school prayer (Labb Pe Aati) by class VII and VIII students. The group of students from DPS Srinagar presented a beautiful song. Then students from DPS Bangalore, who were attired in their cultural dresses represented different states of India and performed a group song “Ham Sab Bhartiya Hain” showing unity and diversity. One girl named Adhrika of DPS Bangalore presented a Bengali classical dance and a boy named Prithiv played a bewitching tune on the mouth organ. The group of girls of our school presented Rouf (Kashmiri Folk Dance) adding essence to our culture with their new innovations, which enthralled the audience. The theatre group of our school played a skit picking up different social issues (Drug Abuse, Cyber Crime, Women Abuse) etc and showcased their talent. The function concluded with the distribution of certificates awarded to the students of DPS Bangalore by Kiran Mam and Mr. Vijay Dhar. Two teachers of DPS Bangalore Mr Sudhir and Ms. Khem Kiran talked about their experiences and spoke volumes about the hospitality of DPS Srinagar and their enjoyable stay here.
