School successfully conducts the finale of Junior Cricket Championship
The finale of the Junior Cricket Championship U-17 was held in the school playground on 20th May, 2017. It was grand event organized by our school in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council. The final match was played between the two qualifying teams of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Zainpora Shopian and New Greenland School, Sumbal, Bandipora.
The Junior Cricket Championship was the first of its kind sports event which catered to a total of 320 teams comprising of 4800 players hailing from the different nook and corners of the Kashmir valley and 319 matches were conducted throughout the tournament in various districts of Kashmir, over a period of 3 months.
Hon’ble CM of the state, Madam Mehbooba Mufti was the chief guest of the mega event. Despite a busy schedule she honored the event with her presence which was itself an encouragement for the organizers as well as the participants. She encouraged the budding sports talent while interacting with a group of students and watched the match for a short while. The Minister for IT and Youth Services & Sports, Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari, who also attended the event, watched the match till the end. He awarded the winning team and the runner up teams with trophies and cash prizes. The winning team (New Greenland School, Sumbal, Bandipora) was awarded a cash prize of 1 lakh rupees, the first runner up team (Govt. Higher Secondary School, Zainpora Shopian) was awarded a cash prize of 50 thousand rupees and the second runner up team(AGM;s school, Nowgam) was given 25000 rupees. The man of the match and man of the series were also rewarded. Apart from that, participation certificates were given to all the school teams from different districts of the valley who has participated in the championship. The district coordinators of the event were also given appreciation certificates.
While addressing the audience, Ansari appreciated the efforts of one and all present there, especially, the organizers of the event. He expressed gratitude towards the management of DPS, Srinagar for providing the school ground for this event and being an active organizer of the whole championship and making it a huge success. He also expressed his willingness and concern to support the budding sports talent in the valley and provide them with all the equipment, training and financial and non-financial facilities required to nurture and bring forth the talent in the youth of Kashmir. He also promised that the participating teams of Junior Cricket Championship from all the districts will get a fair chance to register their names in the sports clubs of the concerned department.
The finale of Junior Cricket Championship was also witnessed by the legislators, Aijaz Mir and Raja Manzoor; Secretary of Youth Services & Sports, Hilal Parray; Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone; Secretary of J&K State Sports Council, Waheed-ur-Rahman Parra; Chairman of our school, Vijay Dhar and Principal, Bala Subramaniam Murali and the other managing staff of the school. The event experienced a grand participation of over 2000 students from all the participating schools of the valley who had been a part of the Championship from the start. The parents of the students of our school, had also come to witness this final match. The school presented mementos to all the dignitaries present in the event. The participants, dignitaries and the audience were highly appreciable of the school’s efforts in hosting the event and making it a grand success.
