School wins Inter-DPS football tournament 2019
School has added another feather to its cap by winning the Inter DPS Boys Open football tournament (Zone 1). The school defeated DPS Bhiwani by 1-0 to clinch the title. 16 teams from North Zone had participated in the tournament held from 21st– 23rd November, 2019 at DPS Abohar, Punjab.
Despite being almost out of practice for the better part of three months, the school brave hearts showed no sign of rust. Rather the team impressed everyone with its daredevil brand of football, and emerged undefeated throughout the tournament. After overcoming the early jitters in its first match against DPS Faridabad, the team found its touch. The semi-finals threatened to put paid to their march but DPS Amritsar was overcome in a Tie breaker. The finals were an excellent demonstration of the team style. A water tight defence was paired with ruthless attack to ensure that while the team did not concede a goal, they penetrated the defence of their opponents to score the winner.
Euzair Tak – the team goal keeper was awarded the ‘Best Goal Keeper Award’ of the tournament winning the Golden Glove by unanimous approval of judges. His goal saving skills and excellent judgement contributed greatly to the dominance of the team.
Speaking on the victory, Principal Alistair R. A Freese congratulated the team. He said “It delights me immensely to see that the team prosper, and overcome all hurdles.” The Chairman, Vijay Dhar too congratulated the team, and attributed it to the “work ethic of the school that values perseverance, and self-belief. In times of great adversity, when schools are closed, the team and coaching staff gathered almost at dawn for curtailed practice sessions. I dedicate it to those who worked behind the scenes at great peril to make the victory possible.”
