Alishba Jeelani of DPS Srinagar wins bronze in the Beach Games 2024
Alishba Jeelani of DPS Srinagar won a bronze in the Beach Games 2024 in Diu, held from January 4th to January 11th, 2024. Pencak Silat is a full-body fighting form incorporating strikes, grappling, and throwing in addition to weaponry. Every part of the body is used and subject to attack. Pencak Silat was practiced not only for physical defense but also for psychological ends.
There are hundreds of different pencak silat styles (aliran) and schools (perguruan) that tend to focus either on strikes, joint manipulation, weaponry, or some combination thereof. Alishba was part of the victorious J&K team that clinched 3 gold and 5 bronze medals. student represents UT in basketball nationals.
Congratulating the student on his feat, Principal Shafaq Afshan said, “We are delighted that Alishba has etched her name in a long chain of excellence in sports established by school alumina over the years. We wish her many more such victories in years to come.”
