DPS Srinagar Emerges Victorious at Pencak Silat Nationals
In a resounding victory, students from Delhi Public School (DPS) Srinagar showcased their prowess at the 2023 Pencak Silat Nationals, leaving an indelible mark on the prestigious tournament held at Patli Putra Stadium in Patna, Bihar.
The championship, spanning from November 23rd to 26th, witnessed intense competition with the participation of over 1400 players representing 34 States and Union Territories. The DPS Srinagar contingent not only held its ground but excelled, contributing significantly to Jammu and Kashmir’s remarkable overall performance.
Among the standout performers were Alishbaa Jeelani (9th) with Silver Medal, Aysha Yattoo (8H) with a Gold Medal, Ahmed Tawseef (7G) with a Silver Medal and Mehreen Ashiq (8I) with a Bronze Medal. Their achievements played a pivotal role in Jammu and Kashmir accumulating an impressive medal tally of 27 Gold, 22 Silver, and 28 Bronze medals, solidifying their standing in the national Pencak Silat arena.
These remarkable performances have not only brought glory to the individual athletes and DPS Srinagar but also positioned them as potential contenders for the Indian national camps. The camps are in preparation for the upcoming 5th Junior World and 20th Senior World Pencak Silat Championship 2023 scheduled to be held in Singapore in January 2024.
The awards ceremony, attended by Bihar’s Sports Minister Shri Jitendra Kumar Rai and other dignitaries, served as a platform to recognize and celebrate the exceptional achievements of the students. Principal Shafaq Afshan expressed her pride, stating, “Our students have once again demonstrated their dedication and skill on a national stage, reflecting the ethos of excellence at DPS Srinagar.” Chairman Vijay Dhar commended the students, saying, “Their success reaffirms the school’s commitment to nurturing holistic development and sporting talent.”
