Delhi Public School, Srinagar once again demonstrated its commitment to scholastic excellence by participating in and emerging as the winners of the prestigious Annual Inter-School Debate Competition held on September 30th, 2023. This event was organised with the objectives of enhancing the significance of critical thinking and eloquence in our education system and providing a platform for students to explore the intricate relationship between modernization and cultural identity. This event showcased the school’s dedication to nurturing students’ intellectual abilities and promoting healthy competition.

The competition brought together twelve distinguished schools, including Presentation Convent, Burn Hall, G.D. Goenka, SRM Welkin, Army Public School, S.P. Higher Secondary, International DPS, Birla Open Minds, Green Valley, Doon International, Kashmir Harvard, and the host school, Delhi Public School, Srinagar.

The motion for this year’s debate competition was “The evolution and modernization of Kashmiri culture should be appreciated.” The aim was to encourage young minds to dissect the impact of modernization on cultural identity and examine how societies strike a balance between embracing progress and preserving their cultural heritage. It served as a platform for students to express their perspectives and engage in meaningful discussions on this pertinent topic.

There were two rounds of debates. Participants had the opportunity to present their arguments in their main speech, spanning three minutes and then engage in rebuttals. The distinguished judges, Dr Masood A. Malik and Dr Suhail Ahmad, evaluated the participants based on criteria such as content, delivery, confidence, intonation, and the ability to reconcile opposing viewpoints. The event witnessed a remarkable turnout, with each participating school fielding talented debaters. Several students displayed exceptional skills in articulation, making the competition both rigorous and intellectually stimulating. The debates featured thought-provoking arguments, well-researched content, and impeccable delivery. Following intense rounds of debates, the winners were announced.

DPS Srinagar’s participants showcased exceptional talent and determination throughout the competition. Their insightful arguments, eloquent speeches, and well-researched content captivated both the judges and the audience. It was a proud moment when DPS Srinagar emerged as the winners of the competition followed by Presentation Convent as Runner Ups. The Best Speaker of the debate was bagged by Sualiha Khan from DPS Srinagar for her outstanding performance.
