DPS Srinagar students shine in MMA tournaments

In recently held Mixed Martial Arts tournaments at both national and UT level DPS Srinagar students secured a rich haul of medals winning two golds and two bronze medals each. Mohammad Gasiq (Grade 11) and Mohammad Zahir Thakur (Grade 9th) secured gold and bronze respectively at the 3rd Indian Open Amateur National Championship held from August 25th to 27th, 2023, at the prestigious Tantya Tope Stadium in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The medallists pipped more than 300 athletes from various regions of the country to a place on the podium. The medallists displayed an immense grip on the fighting techniques, dazzling speed, and incisive strategizing to impress both their opponents in the ring and the audiences alike.

Similarly, Mysha Bilal and Allishba Jeelani (Grade 9th) secured a gold and bronze each in the 1st Khelo India Penchak Silat Women’s League held from August 26th to August 27th at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Sports Complex (SKISC) in Srinagar. The performance of the medallists was uniformly acknowledged to be nothing short of spectacular, as they demonstrated impeccable technique and a warrior’s spirit throughout the competition.

The Principal of DPS Srinagar, Ms. Shafaq Afshan, expressed her delight at the success of the students, saying, “We are immensely proud of our medallists and their contribution to our storied legacy of excellence. Their victories are a testament to their dedication and the rigorous training they receive at our school.
