A Day of Champions: DPS Srinagar Celebrates Sports and Spirit
The grounds of Delhi Public School, Srinagar, buzzed with excitement as students from Grades 3 and 4 celebrated their annual Sports Day. The event’s theme, “Run, Jump, Play, and Keep the Gadgets Away,” was a spirited call to action, reminding everyone of the joy found in active outdoor play and teamwork over screen time.
The afternoon began promptly at 2:30 PM with a serene school prayer, setting a focused tone for the lively events to come. Principal Ms. Shafaq Afshan formally inaugurated the games by lighting the ceremonial torch and hoisting the school flag, a timeless tradition symbolising the spirit of sportsmanship. The Sports Captain then led the assembled students in taking the oath, pledging to compete with honesty and respect.
The energy surged with the spectacular March Past. Grade 4 students, dressed smartly in their house colours, marched with impeccable timing and coordination, setting a dynamic pace for the day. In a contrasting display of calm and control, the Grade 3 students performed a serene Yoga session, showcasing remarkable focus and balance.
The track events were a whirlwind of action, featuring competitive 100-meter sprints, challenging 200-meter races, and the thrilling 4×50-meter relays. Both boys and girls ran with fierce determination, their sheer speed and enthusiasm electrifying the spectators.
The field demonstrations were equally captivating. Grade 3 students performed a synchronised Lazium and Dumbbell drill, a display of perfect rhythm and unity. Not to be outdone, Grade 4 astonished the audience with a complex human pyramid, a true test of flexibility, stamina, and trust. Students performed daring feats, including breaking tiles and jumping through rings of fire.
A special highlight was the Parents’ Race, which drew some of the loudest cheers of the day. The sight of parents sprinting across the field brought an infectious wave of joy and community spirit, offering a powerful, real-life lesson in sportsmanship for their children.
The day’s young champions were duly honoured in the awards ceremony. Principal Ms. Afshan, along with the Academic In-Charges, presented medals and certificates, recognising the hard work and perseverance of the athletes. The event was bolstered by the overwhelming turnout of parents, whose enthusiastic cheers were amplified by the anchors’ witty, multilingual commentary, ensuring the program remained engaging and inclusive for all.
In her concluding vote of thanks, Principal Ms. Afshan expressed deep gratitude to the teachers, sports faculty, students, and parents. She emphasised that the day’s resounding success was a direct result of their collective effort and shared spirit. Sports Day 2025 was a vibrant celebration of movement, teamwork, and a perfect embodiment of its inspiring theme.
