DPS Srinagar hosted a Career Counseling Session on October 3rd, 2023, in the Senior School Auditorium. The session was organized for students of grade 11th and 12th, with a particular focus on those considering careers in law and political science. The event aimed to provide valuable insights into pursuing law as a career, preparing for law examinations, and selecting the right college for legal studies.

The event commenced with a warm welcome to all attendees by the school principal, highlighting the significance of career counseling in helping students make informed decisions about their future.

The resource people of the session were Talha Salaria and Suhaib Salman. Talha Salaria is the Founder Trustee of the LAW Foundation. She is an experienced corporate attorney with more than 20 years of experience in the profession. She works closely with the International Bar Association, one of the largest associations of lawyers around the world. Salaria set up “Lawyers At Work”, a law firm, with a passion to deliver personalized, high-quality commercially relevant corporate law advice. She has been spearheading one of the few women-led law firms in India. Before setting up Lawyers At Work, she was a partner at MMB Legal and practised corporate law at JSA. She is a graduate of National Law School India University, Bangalore, one of the premium law schools in India and was at Welham Girls High School, Dehradun prior to that.

Currently working as the Director of IDIA, Suhaib Salman is a lawyer with an LL.M. in IPR from Nalsar University. Formerly the Creative Head of ‘Lawctopus’, he lent his legal expertise as a Creative Consultant for Greenpeace India’s ‘Vaccines for All’ campaign. Suhaib’s versatility extends to the realm of photography, where his award-winning work ‘Baker-Khani’ graced the UNESCO International Gallery. An ALLY (European Union) fellow and Ideosync-Unesco Information Fellow, he’s a dedicated advocate for digital media rights and intersectional feminism. As the youngest member of ‘AgamiShaala’ justice-makers, Suhaib’s impact is evident, with accolades including a keynote at the Global Peace Summit in Kenya and ongoing projects delving into AI’s impact on artistic creativity.

Talha and Suhaib, took the stage and delivered an engaging presentation. They shared their personal journey, emphasizing the passion and dedication required to succeed in the field of law. They elaborated on the various opportunities and career paths available in the field of law, emphasizing that it extends beyond traditional courtroom practice and provided guidance on how to prepare effectively for law entrance exams, stressing the significance of consistent effort and time management.

They also discussed the importance of choosing the right college for legal studies such as NLU, considering factors such as accreditation, faculty, and location.The session provided a platform for participants to gain deeper insights into their career choices.

The event concluded with closing remarks, expressing gratitude to Talha Salaria, Suhaib Salman, and all participants for making the event a success. Students were encouraged to explore their interests and passions while making informed decisions about their future careers. The responses were overwhelmingly positive, with students appreciating the valuable insights provided by the resource people.
