Celebrating Unity: Grade 1 Annual Day Honours World Culture and Diversity

The Annual Day celebration for Grade 1 was held today under the theme “Global Beats, United Feet,” which transformed the Indoor Stadium of DPS Srinagar into a lively showcase of world cultures. The programme began at 2:30 PM and was graced by the presence of the gracious Ms. Sunanda DharPrincipal Ms. Shafaq AfshanVice Principal Ms. Monisa Khursheed, and In-Charge Ms. Radifa Khan, along with a large gathering of enthusiastic parents.

The event opened with a warm welcome by the anchors, followed by a thoughtful prayer by the students that set a calm and respectful tone for the afternoon.

What followed was a colourful journey across nine countries, with each section presenting a unique cultural performance. Before every act, class anchors introduced their themes briefly, helping the audience understand the tradition and meaning behind each dance form.

The performances reflected a rich mix of global traditions:

  • Grade 1A introduced Japan through a Ninja and Fan Dance inspired by the Cherry Blossom season.
  • Grade 1B presented the lively Russian folk dance Kalinka.
  • Grade 1I took the audience to Egypt with an energetic Saidi Stick Dance.
  • Grade 1D represented America through a medley featuring the Hula Dance, Jazz Dance, Cowboy Dance, Surf Dance, and a cheerful Disney Fashion Parade.
  • Grade 1C portrayed China with graceful Ribbon, Fan, Martial Arts, and Umbrella dances.
  • Grade 1E performed an African Tribal Dance showcasing the continent’s rhythm and spirit.
  • Grade 1H brought Brazil to life with a vibrant Samba followed by a spirited Zumba act.
  • Grade 1G represented Turkey with the Whirling Dervish act, an Ertugrul-inspired performance, and a traditional folk dance.
  • Grade 1F concluded the showcase with a tribute to India, featuring Ghoomar, Garba, Rouf, and Punjabi dance, celebrating the country’s cultural diversity.

The programme drew to a close with a Vote of Thanks from the student anchors. Principal Ms. Shafaq Afshan addressed the gathering, expressing her appreciation to the parents, students, and staff for their efforts in making the event a memorable success.

The programme concluded with a graceful final walk by all Grade 1 students and their teachers, drawing appreciative applause from the audience. The event stood out for its thoughtful execution and the confidence displayed by the young performers, leaving the school community with a renewed sense of pride and shared accomplishment.
