DEAR: Drop Everything And Read Activity Encourages Love for Books and Reading Habits among Students and Staff

09-05-23

Monthly English activity DEAR-Drop Everything And Read was held in the school on Saturday, 6th May 2023 for classes LKG to XII and staff. The activity began at 10am and continued for 45 minutes. In these 45 minutes, the entire school was seen reading books. Children had been asked to carry the books of their choice to read. The staff also had a choice of their own to read during the activity. When the hooter went off at 10am, all activities were brought to a complete halt across the school. Children and teachers in all the classes were seen engrossed in their books. There was a complete silence in the school which enhanced reading and created an atmosphere of peace and tranquility which is much needed in the busy schedule followed in the school every day.

The DEAR activity is held in the school every year with the primary objective of inculcating reading habits in children. It also serves as a welcome break, stimulates reading, and above all, instills love for books among students and the staff in a highly digitized world. Book reading not only connects the reader with the characters and the great authors of all the time, but also teaches moral values and lessons that are important to understand life in a better manner. The concept of forced reading is also an ideal way to improve concentration, better comprehension and to grow more patient. The qualities further help the children in their day to day learning process. The activity is one of the many English activities held in the school to enrich language skills in children.
