Dipsites participate in Welham Model United Nations Conference in Dehradun

Model United Nations, an educational simulation where in children get abreast with diplomacy, international relations and procedural functioning of the UN in its real time, besides enhancing their leadership qualities, researching capacity, critical thinking and listening and debating skills.

Two teachers of Delhi public School, Srinagar accompanied twelve of their students who participated in Welham Model United Nations Conference held from 30th August to 1st September, 2018 in Welham Boys’ School, Dehradun. The students were placed in various committees where in five of twelve delegates secured two first positions, two second positions and a third position in their respective committees. Moreover, four other delegated elevated to a level of verbal mention in their respective committees.

Baber Bilal Malik (12th D1) bagged the best delegate award in the United Nations Counter Terrorism Committee and highly impressed the Chair by his wide research, facts, evidences and debating skills.

Sussanne Aftab (12th D1) bagged the best delegate award in Indian Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and was praised for her empirical solutions that she presented to various internal and international issues that India confronts.

Sadiq Ali (11th D2) bagged the outstanding delegate award in Indian Parliament (Lok Sabha) and his vision for peace and development has been widely acknowledged by the committee.

Asma Shakeel (11th D2) bagged outstanding delete award in NATO and her draft resolutions and directives were praised for their coherence and presentation.

Zayaan Ravouf (12 B1) bagged the honorary delegate award in Indian Parliament (Lok Sabha) and was hailed for his commitment to the nation building through international cooperation. Moreover, he has been declared as the best delegate in crisis management.

Four delegates namely Musa Malik (9th D), Adain Shabir (11th B1), Anaum Pandit (10th F) and Zubaida Ifshan (10th I), two in SPECPOL and two in the United Nations Security Council respectively, were noted as verbal mentions in their respective committees.

On the sidelines of WELMUN in the Art Competition, Kamera Obscura, Mohahammad  Mudasir  (11th B3) bagged the second position and added one more jewel in the crown of DPS, Srinagar.

Over all, it was a great learning experience for all the delegates and the teachers who not only won the prestigious awards but also won hearts of the people coming from all over country to attend the conference.
