DPS Srinagar organises traffic awareness cum management drive

21-11-17

Delhi Public School Srinagar in collaboration with The Kashmir Road Safety Foundation (KRSF) has set up a students club to make people, especially students aware about traffic safety and their responsibilities while on road. Today the club executed its first assignment of managing traffic at the busy Panthachowk traffic junction. Having painfully noted the frequency of loss of life on the roads of Kashmir, the school is stressing now more than ever the importance of road safety.
As part of its social responsibility, the school is already involved in various road safety and traffic management activities. It has already built passenger shelters throughout the city in collaboration with Traffic Police Department.
Before starting the awareness programme, the  volunteers of the KRSF organised a mini workshop to finalize the strategy aimed to make the drive successful.
The drive was directly supervised by SP Traffic Srinagar Mr. Muzaffar. He led a contingent of DPS Students and members of the KRSF to vital traffic junction from Athwajan Chowk as this is the area  where traffic moves at a snail’s pace
The contingent of students and volunteers was briefed and divided into six teams to sensitise road users with the required knowledge and how to deal with trauma on roads as a first responder and also to take proactive precautions to avoid mishaps.
Later on Mr. Muzaffar while addressing the students and teachers reiterated that the purpose of the campaign is to sensitize road users towards important road etiquette like the importance of first aid, safety-helmet, seat-belt, safe passage to hospital referrals and fire tenders on priority. This will naturally inculcate a sense of responsibility towards road accidents, handling trauma amongst commuters, pedestrians and vendors so that precious human lives are saved, and nobody dies before reaching the hospital.
