DPS Srinagar Triumphs at Prestigious Soz Cup Debate Championship

22-10-25

Delhi Public School (DPS) Srinagar has clinched the coveted Winner’s Trophy at the Soz Cup inter-school debate competition, showcasing remarkable intellectual excellence. Hosted by DPS Budgam, the prestigious tournament served as a distinguished platform for young orators and drew participation from seven premier educational institutions across Kashmir.

The victory was secured by DPS Srinagar’s representatives, Sawdah Khan and Syed Esa Andleeb, who demonstrated exceptional rhetorical and argumentative prowess throughout the rigorous competition. They adeptly navigated the challenging and timely motion: “Digital Media is Killing the Habit of Reading Literature.” This compelling theme prompted profound deliberations and diverse perspectives from all participants.

The tournament featured a strong lineup of competing institutions, ensuring a highly competitive and intellectually stimulating environment. The roster included Doon International School Srinagar, Army Public School, G.D. Goenka School, Foundation World School, and Birla Open Minds International School. The format, which comprised proposition rounds followed by dynamic rebuttal sessions, demanded quick thinking, strategic argumentation, and the ability to frame effective counter-opposing viewpoints.

Syed Esa Andleeb and Sawdah Khan delivered a distinguishing performance that set them apart from their peers. Their persuasive articulation, coupled with meticulously reasoned arguments, earned them the second-highest score overall and secured the top position among all visiting schools.

As the host, DPS Budgam participated on a non-competitive basis for team awards. Consequently, Delhi Public School Srinagar was officially declared the Soz Cup champion as the highest-scoring visiting institution. Doon International School claimed second position in the overall standings, while the individual accolade of Best Speaker was conferred upon Dayem Turi of the host school.

The proceedings were adjudicated by a highly distinguished panel, ensuring a fair and rigorous evaluation throughout the competition. The judges included Mr. Noor ul Shahbaz (Senior Lecturer in Law), Mr. Irfan Dar (Assistant Professor of English), and Mr. Khursheed Ahmad Dar (writer and columnist).

This championship victory is a source of immense pride for our institution. It underscores the dedication of our students and the exemplary standards of intellectual and co-curricular education at DPS Srinagar. We extend our warmest congratulations to Syed Esa Andleeb and Sawdah Khan for their outstanding achievement and for bringing such distinction to our school.
