Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22nd to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our planet and promoting sustainable practices. This year, Earth Day was celebrated at Delhi Public School Srinagar on 24th April across the board, with special activities organized by the subject teachers for grades 3 and 4 to spread awareness about the significance of this day.

The teachers designed various activities and initiatives aimed at educating the students about the impact of human actions on the environment and the importance of preserving the planet for future generations. The students were engaged in a range of activities such as reusing the material, nukad natak, creating posters and slogans, and participating in clean-up drives.

The students of grades 3 and 4 were encouraged to participate several thrilling activities , which helped them understand the importance of green cover and how trees contribute to the environment. The students were also taught about the role of trees in purifying the air, reducing pollution, and conserving water resources. The activity helped them appreciate the significance of planting more trees and taking care of the existing ones.

In addition to that the students were also involved in creating posters and slogans highlighting the importance of preserving the environment. The posters and slogans were displayed on one school premises, and the students also participated in a competition to showcase their creativity and understanding of environmental issues.

The school also organized a clean-up drive, where the students were taken to nearby parks and public places to pick up litter and garbage. The activity helped them understand the impact of littering and how it affects the environment and wildlife. The students were also taught about the importance of waste segregation and proper disposal of garbage.

Subject related activity for Grade III for Earth Day

Kashmiri: Writing a slogan on a small piece of paper based on the theme ‘Save Earth”
Science: Cleanliness drive in the school. Children will segregate the biodegradable and non -biodegradable waste.
Maths: Segregation of non-biodegradable-degradable waste, and weighting of the same waste.
Urdu: Making a collage of slogans in Urdu based on the theme ”Save Earth”

Subject-related activity for Grade IV for Earth Day

Science: Nukad Natak (Social awareness program).
English: Writing Activity;(Acrostic Poem Writing)
Social Science: Reusing of biodegradable waste(Educating students over the concept of Reuse, Reduce and Recycle.
Kashmiri: Making a collage of “slogans” with the theme save the Earth.”
Urdu/Hindi: Collage making (Displaying changes in environment over time).
Math: Segregation of Degradable and Non Degradable Waste.(Calculating the amount of non-degradable waste produced in a week and in 1 month.

Overall, the Earth Day celebrations at Delhi Public School Srinagar were a great success, and the students gained a better understanding of the importance of preserving the environment. The activities organized by the subject teachers helped the students connect with nature and understand the impact of human actions on the environment. The school should continue to promote such activities and initiatives to create a more sustainable future for all.
