School organises Writing Fest
“If you cannot write well, you cannot think well, and if you cannot think well, others will do your thinking for you.”
~ George Orwell
To commemorate this thought, Delhi Public School, Srinagar celebrated literature and words in the name of ‘Writing Fest’ from 8th August to 18th August, 2017.
Children of LKG and UKG celebrated their tender and warm relation with their Grandparents. The teachers and children shared their heartfelt stories about their relationship with their grandparents. The same was concluded with the collage/ frame making activity on which they traced the letter ‘d’ which denotes both Dada and Dadi.
Children of grade 1 and 2 celebrated their favorite person. The teachers and children shared their stories about their favorite person which was later in the week followed by an activity where they drew the image of their favorite person and wrote a few lines about them.
Children of grade 3 and 4 were guided how a story is written during this fortnight and they shared their favorite story book or cartoon characters with the teachers. Children made cover pages for books and later on wrote a story on the prompt provided by the teacher.
Children of grade 5, 6, 7 and 8 celebrated literature by bringing daily quotes by famous authors and writers. They made charts and displayed their favorite characters from books, cartoons, stories, etc. on the class display boards. Later on during the fortnight they wrote a story on the prompt provided by the teacher following the methods of story writing, which they were taught about during the Writing Fest’s procession.
Children of grade 9 and 10 celebrated their favorite authors, storybook characters, famous articles, columnists and the beauty of words during this period. The children were guided about the methods and techniques of article writing and were later on provided with two topics out of which they had to choose one to write an article showcasing the knowledge they’ve gained during the Writing Fest’s procession.
The main purpose that the Writing Fest served was to make children become close to literature and words.
To motivate the children further, this Shakespearean event will be concluded with Acknowledgment Certificates given to the best writers and thinkers.
