Wings to Fly: DPS Srinagar Celebrates Student Artistry and Leadership at Annual Day
Delhi Public School Srinagar hosted its Annual Day programme, titled “Wings to Fly,” on 18 April, 2026 at the Indoor Stadium for the students of Classes 9 and 11. The event was characterized by its student-led management, as the school council and volunteers handled every aspect of the day with professional precision. Attended by the Principal, Ms. Shafaq Afshan and the Vice Principal, Ms. Monisa Khursheed, the programme served as a clear demonstration of the creative and organisational capabilities of the senior student body.
The proceedings, anchored in both English and Urdu, featured an expansive cultural showcase that ranged from high-energy regional dances like Garba and Bhangra to poignant theatrical performances. Through musical fusions, Urdu poetry, and a Kashmiri skit, students explored the thematic tension of “Wings to Fly,” highlighting the importance of nurturing natural talents despite the social restrictions that often hinder individual progress. The atmosphere in the stadium was one of deep emotional resonance, as each act offered a unique perspective on the challenges and triumphs of youth.
The success of the day rested on the exceptional coordination of the Student Council, who designed the thematic stage and ensured the smooth transition of events. This focus on student agency allowed the participants to demonstrate significant growth in leadership and teamwork. In her concluding address, the Principal praised the students for their confidence and for the sincerity they brought to every performance, noting that their hard work made the event truly memorable.
“The brilliance of ‘Wings to Fly’ lies in how our students transformed an abstract concept into a powerful narrative about potential and perseverance, proving that education is as much about expression as it is about academics,” noted Principal Ms. Shafaq Afshan. Building on this sentiment, Chairman Mr. Vijay Dhar remarked, “Seeing our students take full ownership of such a complex event reinforces our mission to build independent, visionary leaders who possess the character and confidence to navigate the world on their own terms.”
